Press coverage of our final day
Friday, June 17th, 2011Hi everyone, check out the story in our local press
Just one example of the acres of coverage the trip has received…
Like a small aromatic onion…

… That’s shallot. Baroness Grey-Thompson skillfully guided the trike home across the finish line, and all was well in the world. We held a successful reception in the Atlee Suite in Portcullis House, toasts were made (sadly only with tea and coffee), MPs were addressed and the trike was wheeled into the back of the van.
1 hour to go…
Thursday, June 16th, 2011I’m blogging from central London, in a very prestigious location. Tanni has received her trike training, and we are preparing to take the final leg of the route past St Thomas’s hospital, over Westminster Bridge and onto the Houses of Parliament. After 2 hours of lovely summer sunshine, it’s just started raining again. We’ve been fighting the weather all trip to be honest, and it is with an air of insousiance that we face mild British precipitation; we’ve had horizontal snowstorms, for the love of Pete.
When I next update you it should hopefully be from Portcullis House.
London vs Paris
Thursday, June 16th, 2011In terms of traffic, it’s definitely a score draw…
The finish line is in sight…
Thursday, June 16th, 2011… Or at least it would be, if the rain wasn’t so blinding. At this rate, we’re going to have to break out bin bags for the VIPs!
Anyway, not far now, we’re on schedule to cross Westminster Bridge a little before 1600, with Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson kindly piloting old Iron Lung the last leg of the way.
I’ll be live blogging throughout, so stay tuned! I’ve also made a video for the reception at Portcullis House, which I’ll post on YouTube tonight…

June 12 Update

Rain, rain, go away…
Saturday, June 11th, 2011
Well, we made it across the border. The van was given a cursory check by the customs guards, who seemed more interested in Dan’s wheelchair than the trike or the suspicious characters driving the van. We entered the country at Basel, and picked up Denny’s trail to Basel.
Halfway: time for a thank you

As we’ve changed country, now seems to be a good time to give thanks to our corporate partners, without whom, we wouldn’t have been able to undertake this challenge. Sponsoring the trike is Unity Law (http://www.unity-law.co.uk), who have been very generous in their support. Unity Law specialise in helping people with industrial and work-related injury, disease and Disability Discrimination cases, and are someone who we are very pleased to be working alongside.
Language Barriers we have faced so far
Friday, June 10th, 2011- 1. When you type brasserie, it autocorrects to brassiere. I could go back and correct it, but I rather like the image.
- 2. “Vis a vis” means “approximately” in French, so when we went looking for a restaurant named ‘Vis a vis” it took us an hour to work out that there was no such place. Funny now, but at the time I was ready to eat a horse (and of course, here you can actually eat a horse).
- 3. Scheissplatz is a shooting range, not a toilet.
